About

Although this subject is shrouded in mystery, this is not a woo woo course. This is a practical and theoretical exploration of a relevant bio-psycho-social-technology that we will explore from modern scientific, traditional, ancestral, and personal perspectives.

Throughout the course, I will be using my own journey and experience with the “Sacred Circle” as a case study, not because it is ideal or exemplary, but because it is my authentic story and relationship to how this dynamic and transformative tool can influence your life in an ongoing and universal, yet personal way. I will not be talking about some exclusive form of enlightenment but rather a richly embodied relationship to life and the cosmos that is readily available with a little nurturing and practice.

I will be intentionally steering away from specific traditional tropes and expressions of the sacred circle other than to provide examples and to honor the sources that shared the seed with me. This is for a couple reasons: one, to help you connect to the teachings at a primal level from which you can cultivate your own relationship to them'; and two, to respect specific cultural forms and teachings of indigenous peoples and avoid unintended claims of cultural appropriation.

“Since the beginning of time humans have noticed the constants of nature that emerge in an overwhelmingly mysterious universe. It is in these patterns, rhythms and cycles that we have found a sense of certainty and a way to interact with the Kosmos, to understand our place in it, and to make sense and find meaning in our lives.

Over the ages and around the world this primal relationship to nature has been has been represented by a universal motif, a primal technology which can be a guide, a mirror, a vessel of wisdom, and a framework for living. Although it takes many forms and is known by many names, it is easily identified by its circular design.

In this course we will be exploring this primal technology and I hope to share with you how it is still relevant and useful even now in the context of the modern world. I hope you can join me on this journey of rediscovering the ancient secrets of the Sacred Circle."

Your Guide

Ben Sanford, founded Tribal Edge in 2002 and has been influenced by the framework of the Sacred Circle and it’s teachings, in some shape or form, since 1997 when he was first introduced to it by his teacher’s Tom Brown Jr., and further training with Jon Young in 1999. Since then, he has practiced and explored the principles of these teachings in his own life and his 20 year long experience with the Tribal Edge community. In that time, his relationship to the Sacred Circle has expanded to be deeply influenced by aspects of dynamical systems theory, complex adaptive system theory, integral theory, and cognitive science. Ben seeks to provide a primal (simple yet essential) understanding of complex teachings and inspire others to embrace the mystery of life through curiosity and wonder.
